Philanthropy and community service was recognized at the 10th annual Community Foundation Awards Monday.
In addition to the awards, the meeting also serves as a transitional meeting from one Board of Trustees Chair to another. Jackie Hartman Borck handed those duties over to Kim McAtee.
A dozen awards were handed out at the ceremony. The Young Trustee Volunteer Award went to Jamie Coons, who helped start the annual Young Trustees Chili Cookoff several years ago, and reflected on first coming to the area.
The Philanthropist Award went to Robert and Tracey Debruyn, founders of the Master Teacher, who are also helping establish the new Museum of Art and Light project in downtown Manhattan. Robert Debruyn provided remarks at Monday’s ceremony.
GMCF Presient Vern Henricks was also recognized for helping grow the organization’s reach over the past decade.
Two nonprofit organizations received service awards Monday. Director Liz Nelson accepted for the Manhattan Senior Center.
Director Beth Klug accepted the award for Shepherd’s Crossing.
The Civic Philanthropy Award went to Common Table. Director Michael Gassmann accepted on behalf of the organization.
Tooth Center Dentistry Director Dr. Emilie Smith accepted the Business Philanthropy Award.
Other award winners Monday included the late Dean and Verlla Coughenour, who received the Lifetime Contribution Award and Stifel Financial’s Greg Barron received the Professional Advisor Award. The Trustee Award went to former State Rep. Tom Phillips. The Rising Star Volunteer award was presented to Jill Sherman. The Distinguished Volunteer Award went to Joy Hall. The Youth Volunteer Award went to Eli Conley.
