Manhattan City Commissioners will consider entering into a $2.9 million contract to finance road construction in the north campus corridor.

The contract is being proposed after KDOT recently announced it will not start a planned roundabout project at US 24 and K-113 Seth Child Road until 2025, rather than next year as initially planned. That’s prompted the city to fast track work in the Edge District to avoid simultaneous projects happening in that area. The city is planning to redevelop the intersection at Kimball and Denison and was planning some of the phased work to take place in 2025 but intends to move that up.

The plan is to extend a frontage road from Grain Mill east to Denison Ave to create an access for the Manhattan Fire Department so that the city can do necessary improvements on Kimball Ave. next year. Kimball and Marlatt are expected to take on added traffic once the roundabout project starts.

The city meets at 6 p.m. in City Hall.
