Riley County Police say no arrests have been made in relation to the rumored threat of a shooting scheduled to take place at the Manhattan High School – East Campus Thursday.

Capt. Josh Kyle says RCPD was first notified that the Safe School Hotline had received an anonymous call from a person reporting a rumor circulating about students wearing a safe color on Oct. 31 to avoid being shot. Officer presence wa increased at both the East and West campuses. MHS students and parents were notified by USD 383 and as a result, a significant number of parents chose to not send their students to school.

RCPD says their investigation revealed additional information about the rumors concerning the East Campus, which were not disclosed. The investigation continues.

In an apparently unrelated incident, RCPD says their investigation revealed that an MHS West student had posted a picture of himself on social media while holding what appeared to be a firearm. The photograph also contained a “menacing statement.” Police have arrested 15-year-old Conner Bruce on a charge of criminal threat. He remains in custody in the North Central Kansas Regional Juvenile Detention Facility.
