The American Red Cross urges eligible donors to GIVE MORE LIFE by donating blood in the new year! Winter weather and illness can make it difficult for the American Red Cross to maintain a sufficient blood supply at this time of year. January is National Blood Donor month, and now is the perfect time to resolve to give more life by being a blood donor. There will be a blood drive at HyVee on Monday January 21st beginning at 10:45 am. Make an appointment by calling 1-800-RED-CROSS (733-2767) or by visiting www.redcrossblood.org. Boy Scout Troop 223 is hosting their annual Chili Feed on Saturday, January 26th from 11:00 am to 7:00 pm at Pottorf Hall in CiCo Park (Riley County Fair Grounds). Tickets are $5 and include all the chili and hot dogs you can eat – includes relishes and a drink. Children 5 and under eat for free. Fresh baked goods will also be available by cash donations for your enjoyment. All funds will go to support the Troop’s camping activities. The Manhattan Lions Club will be holding a Biscuit and Gravy Feed on Saturday, February 2nd at the College Avenue United Methodist Church, 1609 College Avenue, from 7:00 am to 1:00 pm. Funds from this event will be distributed between Shepard’s Crossing, The Crisis Center, Emergency Shelter, Habitat for Humanity and others. Cost is $5.00 for adults and $3.00 for children under 12. There will be a raffle with funds going to Kansas Specialty Dog Services.
CASA – Court Appointed Special Advocates for children will have a 2019 Spring Training event. Training dates: February 5th, 12th, 19th, 26th; March 5th, 19th, 26th; April 2nd. Classes will run from 5:30 to 8:30 pm at the First Lutheran Church in Manhattan, Room 28.
