Manhattan City Commissioners will consider a pair of resolutions tonight including one involving the 2024 budget.

City staff are proposing an intent to levy a property tax exceeding the revenue neutral rate and setting a public hearing related to that. The current neutral rate is 47.613 and commissioners will decide whether to increase the levy to 50.470 mills. Feedback provided at the June 13 commission work session was provided to not capture the full 9.5% valuation growth assessed by Riley and Pottawatomie counties, but rather a 6% growth, which would incur a decrease from the 2023 budget of 1.684 mills. The 2023 mill levy was 52.154.

Commissioners also tonight will consider a policy manual resolution related to the use of city logos and Johnny Kaw’s name, image and likeness. The consideration comes after a production company asked to feature Johnny Kaw on a TV show.

Commissioners meet at 6 p.m. at Manhattan City Hall.
