John Matta will seek a third term on the Manhattan City Commission.

After winning a 2-year term in 2021, Matta says he has unfinished business he’d like to complete, focusing on housing, economic development and affordability related to taxation. Matta tells KMAN he believes the city has achieved a lot in terms of economic development.

Matta currently chairs the Riley County Law Board and says he was instrumental in getting a strong conservative majority onto the board this past winter.

Matta becomes the second to officially file for the city commission race, joining citizen Rafael Rodriguez Jr. Manhattan Mayor Mark Hatesohl has announced his intent to seek re-election, but had not filed with the Riley County Clerk’s Office as of Tuesday.

Four seats are vacant this November, following the resignation of Usha Reddi, who had two years remaining on her term. Linda Morse announced last week she will not seek re-election.
