The Flint Hills Discovery Center kicked off their ten year anniversary celebration by recognizing their Friend of the Flint Hills.

Susan Adams, Discovery Center director, says this year’s recipient was Bruce Snead. She says he has been involved in the community many years, including city commission and mayor as well as the current FHDC Foundation president.

“His involvement with that south end development helped him locate the STAR bonds, the sales tax and revenue dollars, 50 million, which helped develop that whole south end, so, the Discovery Center, Blue Earth Plaza, the Manhattan Conference Center, and then all the hotels and retail.”
The anniversary celebration continues this Thursday (April 14) with a party at the Flint Hills Discovery Center. Adams says there will be plenty of activities for everyone.
“We’ll have a short presentation by some dignitaries talking about what the anniversary means to us and then just have a fun experience with cake, a balloon drop, some giveaways, and discount pricing.”
Pricing for Thursday’s event is seven dollars for adults and three dollars for those ages two through 17. Deanna Likes, marketing coordinator, says they will also be offering ten percent off of all levels of membership, which has never been done before.
“(We just) Encourage people if they haven’t been a member before, or if they have but they haven’t been a member for a while, or if they’re looking for a gift to give.”
Membership pricing discounts will last four days only, beginning Thursday (April 14) and running through Sunday (April 17).
The Thursday party kicks off with doors opening at 10 AM, music at 10:30, presentation at 11, and cake to follow.
