On February 14, 2017, Riley County Dispatch received an assist other jurisdiction request in regards to a chase that originated with the Rossville (Kansas) Police Department. The chase began in Shawnee County, continued through Pottawatomie County, and eventually entered Riley County.
Once the vehicle, a black 2009 Lexus entered Manhattan, it ran the stop light at E. Poyntz Ave. and Tuttle Creek Blvd., colliding with a 2014 Chevrolet Equinox, driven by Kelly Alexander, 42, of Clay Center Kansas. The Lexus did not stop, continuing westbound onto Ft. Riley Blvd. at high rates of speed.
The Lexus, while traveling westbound on Fort Riley Blvd., crossed into oncoming traffic and struck a 2002 Chevrolet Cavalier, driven by David Hober, 35, of Manhattan, Kansas. Hober was transported by EMS to Via Christi for treatment of his injuries. The driver of the Lexus, later identified as Robert McGinley, 26, of Lees Summit, Missouri, also sustained injuries and was transported by EMS to Via Christi for treatment.
Officers with Rossville Police Department conducted a search of the Lexus, and located over 2 pounds of methamphetamine and 1 pound of marijuana. Officers also located multiple items of drug paraphernalia, approximately $30,000.00 in cash, and two firearms.
After being released from Via Christi, McGinley was arrested for aggravated battery, possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute, possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, possession of a firearm by a felon, flee and elude, driving while suspended, DUI, and felony possession of drug paraphernalia. McGinley remains confined at the Riley County Jail on no bond at the time of this press release.
Rossville Police Department requested the Riley County Police Department to take over the criminal investigation. The investigation is ongoing.
