Riley County Planner Amanda Webb detailed the Comprehensive Plan update Thursday to the Riley County Commission.
Webb released the Comprehensive Plan Committee member list, outlining the goals of the committee and discussed the various categories they are focused on.
The Commission approved the plan, while Commissioner John Ford requested mental health be added, and Webb agreed to the request. Webb explained that she has reached out to all the relevant county department heads.
She spoke about the public interest survey she is preparing, detailing some issues with the current technology, and some of the limitations present.

Webb has explored some other options and said she is working with other departments who also work with surveys.

A new List Serve (listsrv) is coming, which will allow community members to sign up for news releases and updates from Riley County.
County Extension Director Gary Fike detailed the 2024 Extension budget requests. Fike requested a 10% increase in the 2024 budget, due to the average rising costs and the amount previously budgeted.
Commissioner John Ford dissented on this increase, and gave his reasoning.
Fike explains that funding from K-State is small, and they pay a small percentage of each agent’s salary. The largest amount of the Extension Office budget comes from Riley County.
Commissioners will meet again on Monday at 8:30 a.m. at the Riley County Office Building. Next Thursday, the county will hold its quarterly evening meeting in Leonardville at 6 p.m.
