The Manhattan Fire Department was called out Tuesday evening for the report of smoke coming from the Manhattan Walmart store’s lawn and garden center.

Crews arrived around 5:30 p.m. and noticed multiple flashing lights inside and outside of the store. A motor issue on the roof was found to be the source of the smoke and firefighters quickly isolated the problem. The store was evacuated and no injuries were reported.

Evergy was called out to restore power, but the store remained closed through much of the evening. A damage estimate has not been provided.
